Even the most carefully curated home can look much less appealing when taken over by unnecessary clutter. To make the most of your space, follow these simple interior design tips to help you reduce household clutter and keep your home looking inviting and well kept:

  1. Open Storage –

By adding open storage to your living space, you are making the commitment to openly display what is on your shelves. This will keep you from collecting unnecessary items that you do not want to be on display. If you are having problems maintaining organization in your open storage, consider adding metal or woven baskets to keep your shelves looking clean and tidy.

  1. Choose furniture pieces that double as storage –

There are many options for furniture pieces that double as hidden storage! For your family/ living room consider buying an ottoman that opens and has inside storage. Also, consider adding a window seat to your bedroom with underneath storage. (Pro tip: Adding drawers underneath the window seat allows for easy access without having to remove the seat cushions!)

  1. Make the most out of your kitchen storage –

Installing pull out drawers and lazy Susans in your kitchen will help you to maximize kitchen storage and keep your counters clutter free! Also, installing appliance garages (cabinets designed to be the perfect size for small kitchen appliances) allows you to easily reach your frequently used appliances, but keep them hidden.

  1. Create a mini home office –

Installing a small cabinet under a floating shelf provides a separate space for a small home office! This can help keep your bills, calendars, and phone messages organized and put away  out of sight!

  1.  Install Medicine Cabinets –

Installing medicine cabinets in your bathroom can allow you to easily reach your everyday items without having them directly on your counter.

  1. Giving everything a place –

When incorporating more storage areas in the design of your home, make sure to assign a specific place for everything you own to be put away. This will keep you from leaving things out because you know exactly where it is supposed to go!

Incorporating these simple storage tips into the your design of your home can help to reduce unwanted household clutter and keep your home looking beautiful!
